Optimizing your XP Connection
currently in: Support Center > Connecting > Windows 95 / 98 / 2000 / XP > Logging on with Windows XP > Optimizing your XP Connection


  1. You should have an icon under Network Connections in your Control Panel named Datacruz
    1. Double-click on the Datacruz icon ( You can also access this icon by selecting the Start menu, choosing Connect to, and selecting Datacruz.  The following screen will appear).
    2. Click on Properties.

  2. Under the General tab, make sure the device you are going to use to dial-up is selected.  Check to see if the phone number is also correct.

  3. Setup the Options tab:
    1. Under Dialing Options, select Display progress while connecting, Prompt for username and password, certificate, etc., and Prompt for phone number.

    2. Under Redialing Options, select 3 for Redial attempts, select 1 minute for Time between redial attempts, select Never for Idle time before hanging up, and check Redial if line is dropped.


  4. Setup the Security tab:
    1. Under Security options, select Typical.

    2. Under Validate my identity as follows, select Allow unsecured password
      (The password is sent to a secure server, so this will not make your password vulnerable. If you choose a different setting, then the server will NOT be able to authenticate your username and password.)


  5. Under the Networking tab, verify that PPP is selected, and click Settings.

  6. Setup PPP Settings:
    1. If you are using a Win modem then place a check next to Enable Software Compression, if you are not, or are not sure, do not check the box.

    2. Click OK.


  7. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click Properties.

  8. Under the General tab, select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS Server address automatically.

    1. Click on Advanced. Under the General tab, select Use default gateway on remote network, and Use IP header compression.

    2. Click OK.

    3. Click OK.

    4. To dial-in to Datacruz, double-click on the Datacruz icon under Network connections or access this icon by selecting the Start menu, choosing Connect to, and selecting Datacruz.  Enter your login password, Check Save this user name password for the following users, if you do not want to retype your password at every connect, and click Dial.
