- Open My Computer
- Double-Click Control Panel
- Open System
- Click Device Manager
- Click the Plus(+) next to Ports
- Double-Click the Communications Port that your modem uses(generaly COM2)
- Go to the Port Settings tab

- If you have a 28.8 modem, set Bits Per Second to 57600. If you have a 56.6 modem, set this to 115200.
- Set Flow Control to Hardware unless you have a Winmodem in which it should be set for Xon/Xoff. If you are unsure, choose Hardware.
- Click Advanced

- Pull both slider bars to the full Right
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Now try to reconnect.
