  1. Open My Computer
  2. Double-Click Control Panel
  3. Open System
  4. Click Device Manager
  5. Click the Plus(+) next to Ports
  6. Double-Click the Communications Port that your modem uses(generaly COM2)
  7. Go to the Port Settings tab



  8. If you have a 28.8 modem, set Bits Per Second to 57600. If you have a 56.6 modem, set this to 115200.
  9. Set Flow Control to Hardware unless you have a Winmodem in which it should be set for Xon/Xoff. If you are unsure, choose Hardware.
  10. Click Advanced



  11. Pull both slider bars to the full Right
  12. Click OK
  13. Click OK
  14. Now try to reconnect.
